Billson Returns as Voice of the TWL
Marky Billson returns for his second season as the “Voice of the Texas Winter League,” calling all the play-by-play of the entire season as well as writing the league’s media guide, game stories, and press releases for the website.
Previously, Billson has called baseball play-by-play for the Alexandria Aces and Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings of the United League and the Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League, as well as last season’s Texas Summer League in Fort Worth.
Billson brings in an incredibly diverse media background to the TWL. In addition to his baseball broadcasting, he has called play-by-play for the North American Hockey League’s Johnstown Tomahawks and been a sideline reporter on University of Pittsburgh radio broadcasts in addition to college and high school football and basketball play-by-play. He has also been a sports talk show host, a news reporter, and a DJ in Pittsburgh and the Tri-Cities, TN-VA area.
As a writer, Billson has written for numerous magazines, newspapers, and websites, including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, New York Metro, Wheeling Intelligencer. He has covered the New York Mets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Panthers football team, Wheeling Nailers, and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League, and received national attention for his stories selecting the greatest home runs of all time for every major league franchise in Baseball Digest with Bob Kuenster and asking why Howard Cosell has not won the Pete Rozelle Award for football broadcasters from the Pro Football Hall of Fame for si.com.
In 2011, Billson was the primary author of “Pennsylvania Sports Trivia,” part of Overtime Books’ series of state history sports books.
