About the Broadcaster:

Marky Billson

Marky Billson brings a wealth of experience to the Texas Winter League broadcasts.

Billson, who called the games in the Texas Winter League last February in Harlingen, has also called baseball games for three professional teams. In 1997, Billson announced Johnson City Cardinals games for a season before his career turned primarily to print. But baseball broadcasting has always been his passion, and he returned to the broadcast booth calling the action of the United League’s Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings in 2012 and the Alexandria Aces this season.

In addition to his work as a baseball broadcaster, Billson has also called high school and college football and basketball games for outlets in Western Pennsylvania, East Tennessee, and Northeast Ohio. He also called hockey games for the North American Hockey League’s Johnstown Tomahawks, been a sideline reporter on the University of Pittsburgh radio network, working with Schenkel Award winner Bill Hillgrove, and has also been a sports talk show host, DJ, and news reporter.

An accomplished writer, Billson wrote for five years for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for five years, was on the staff of the Wheeling Intelligencer for another, and covered the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Panthers for the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat and the New York Mets for New York Metro. He has also covered the Panthers for rivals.com and scout.com.

Magazine articles Billson has penned include selecting the greatest home runs hit by every franchise with John Kuenster for Baseball Digest in May 2006. Billson adamentally believes Howard Cosell has been wrongly slighted by the Pro Football Hall of Fame in their selection of the Rozelle Award and wrote about it for si.com http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/08/02/cosell/index.html .

Billson was also commissioned to write a book, “Pennsylvania Sports Trivia,” for Overtime Books in 2011.
